Janice Taylor says she was “…born fat. I was the only baby in the hospital nursery to gain weight.” An ominous sign. At age 8, she weighed 112 lbs. Then, after a lifetime of yo-yo dieting (performed gracefully), Janice finally and permanently removed over 50 pounds 7 years ago.
How did she do it? Well, we recently had the great pleasure of a nice, long chat with Janice. She shared the story of her visitation from Our Lady of Weight Loss, and told us how she became the country’s leading weight-loss artist™®*
Listen in as she shares her amazing story of weight, art, and life.
How did you first meet Our Lady of Weight Loss? .jpg)
Well, about seven years ago, I weighed in one more time at one more meeting and found myself the heaviest ever. “I’m never going to make it,” I said to myself. And then, Our Lady spoke to me. “You’re an artist. Make weight loss your art project.” It was a true ‘aha’ moment for me. I completely shifted my focus from despair to happiness. I began to use the meetings for inspiration, and started making art about food, instead of eating it! Sexy vegetable collages came first.
Wow! That’s powerful motivation. How did you keep going?
I did self-hypnosis. Every night in a hot bath, I could feel the fat dripping off. I found my bones in the bathtub. I began to realize that I could choose my own reality. I lost over 50 pounds 7 years ago and have kept it off!
No wonder you have such a following on OurLadyOfWeightLoss.com
I get to meet women from nearly every walk of life in my workshops and in my coaching practice. I might never have met them in my old corporate life.
You not only coach and teach, your enewsletter and blogs give us all great support, and we love your special eCourses!
Yes, I’m blogging now for BeliefNet, Huffington Post and Today’s Health and Wellness. And I’m really excited about the Christmas Diet we’ve just kicked off. It’s a full program from November 1 till January 1, based on a daily email that gives you useful information and an easy step to do that day, so you can wake up on New Year’s Day thinner than you are now!
That sounds good to me! I know the holidays are hardest for me to stay on track. Janice, you’re a coach, an artist, author of two books, a wife, and mom. What do you do to take time for yourself?
I belong to a multi-cultural women’s group that’s really great. We are all very different from each other in many ways, but we get a better sense of who we are when we grow to know and understand each other. I also co-founded the Harlem Open Studio Tour.
What do you want us to know about you that we might not know?
I’m an open book. Just because I’m a coach don’t think I’m perfect at all! I’m like everybody. 80% healthy and 20% unhealthy. And, I’m a mess. Once I was so intent on packing for a weekend retreat I was leading that I forgot to pack any pants!
And Our Lady?
She still talks to me!
